The Lords will begin defense of their NCAC Tournament title Nov. 4 when they
host Oberlin College starting at 2 p.m. at Mavec FieldGAMBIER, Ohio – Coming off a 15-1 regular season and 8-1 mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Kenyon College men's soccer team is hoping to win another tournament title. The postseason journey starts November 4 at home as the Lords welcome Oberlin College to Mavec Field at 2 p.m.
Â
A year ago, Kenyon won its first-ever NCAC Tournament title. Now, with the Lords ranked No. 1 in the latest D3Soccer.com poll, the team will turn their attention to the Yeomen (11-6-1, 5-4-0 NCAC). It'll be the second time these two schools have met in the conference tournament with Kenyon winning the previous matchup Nov. 6, 2013 by a 1-0 count. The lone goal of that match was scored by current midfielder
Jeremiah Barnes.
Â
This season, Kenyon defeated Oberlin 1-0 on October 14 as
Tony Amolo tallied the game-winner. In the match, the Lords out-shot the Yeomen 23-10 but Oberlin goalie Koryn Kraemer gave his team a chance as he saved eight shots. Â The freshman keeper will have to be on point again versus a potent Kenyon attack if the Yeomen hope to pull the upset.
Â
Offensively, the Lords feature the second-best scoring offense in the conference as they have notched 45 goals. Led by Amolo who has scored a league-high 15 goals, five more Lords have tallied multiple scores. Oberlin's defense, which has allowed just three goals since losing to Kenyon in October, has yielded 17 total goals this season, which is tied for sixth in the NCAC. Kraemer has been solid in goal this season having saved 74 shots (2nd) while posting a 1.01 goals against average (5th).
Â
The Lords' defense, which many thought would take some time to mesh after losing the entire back line from last season, has been just as good if not better than its offense this year. Kenyon has surrendered multiple goals in a match just once this season. In all, the Lords have allowed a conference-low eight goals. In goal is junior
Sam Clougher. He leads the NCAC in goals allowed and goals against average (0.53). Against the Yeomen earlier in the season, the Kenyon defense allowed just three shots on goal. The Lords will look to slow down John Ingham who has tallied 14 goals this year while adding five assists. Eight other Yeomen players have scored at least two goals this year as well.
Â
Ticket prices for Wednesday's match which starts at 2 p.m. are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students without a valid NCAC ID. Â Any NCAC student with a valid NCAC Institution ID will be admitted free of charge. The match will also offer a live
video broadcast and
live stats.
