GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Kenyon College softball team's record 15-game win streak came to an end Saturday at DePauw University. The host Tigers swept a doubleheader from the visiting Ladies in the start of both teams' North Coast Athletic Conference schedules. The Tigers took game one, 8-0, and then rolled to a 14-5 win in game two.
The 22 DePauw runs were the result of 22 hits, including seven home runs in the two-game set. Four of those seven home runs came in game one. Elizabeth Getz, Linsey Button, Lauren Godden, and Taylor Golden all went deep for the Tigers. Getz had a two-run shot in the third inning. Godden added a solo shot in the same frame and the Tigers moved ahead, 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Golden belted another solo homer and in the fifth inning Button ripped a three-run dinger that put the Tigers ahead 8-0. Kenyon, which managed just two hits off DePauw starting pitcher Kahla Nolan, couldn't come through in the bottom of the fifth and succumbed to the eight-run mercy rule.
Nolan (4-6) was not overpowering, but got the job done. She walked four and struck out two.
Chelsea Delaney and
Liz Paterra were the only Ladies to come up with hits. Meanwhile, the normally reliable
Maddy Stark did not have her best day in the pitchers' circle. She struck out four, but gave up all eight runs on eight hits, including the four home runs.
Stark (10-4) went back out to the circle in game two, but the Tigers (11-8) continued to time her up. Getz and Godden went yard again and Alli Dennie joined them as DePauw jumped to an 8-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the inning, Stark got a bit of revenge, capping a four-run Kenyon inning with a two-run homer of her own.  The home run was Stark's fourth in Kenyon's last eight games. She now leads the Ladies with 32 hits and 24 RBIs on the season.
After just two hits in game one, the Ladies offense came up with six in game two. In the leadoff spot, freshman
Madi Maldonado was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Lindsey Susolik had a pair of singles and
Nicole Horita had a double and scored a run.
Although the games were played at DePauw, Kenyon (19-5) was the home team. The doubleheader was originally supposed to be played in Gambier, but the Ladies' field remains unplayable and under repair.
