WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Kenyon College field hockey team continues to dominant opponents. With Sunday's 3-0 non-conference win over the Washington and Jefferson College Presidents, the Ladies dialed up their fourth straight win and upped their season record to 6-1.
The Ladies offense kept the ball in the Presidents' zone for most of the contest and constructed huge advantages in shots (16-4) and penalty corners (12-4). At the other end of the field, Kenyon sophomore goalkeeper
Sarah Speroff had to make just one save to notch her fourth shutout of the season. That lowered Speroff's, as well as the Ladies', overall goals against average to 0.71.
Another sophomore,
Weezie Foster, got the ball rolling on Kenyon's offensive front. At the 12:51 mark, Foster drove through the Washington and Jefferson circle and launched a shot past Presidents' goalkeeper Morgan Brozena and into the lower right side of the cage. It was Foster's third goal of the season and gave her an updated total of seven points in the Ladies' first seven games.
Kenyon then looked to
Maddie Breschi to double its lead. Less than five minutes into the second half, Breschi took a shot that was stopped by defender Shelby Howell. The rebound came right back to Breschi, who fired it over the goal line for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. That goal was Breschi's 43rd of her career and gave her 107 career points. She's now just two points shy of Kenyon's career record for points (109) and one shy of the career record for goals (44).
The Ladies' wrapped things up with a tally from sophomore
Katelyn Hutchinson, who has the hot hand lately. Hutchinson also scored off a rebound. At the 61:57 mark, she pounced on a rebound that came off an initial shot from Breschi and put it back into the Presidents' cage. That tally was Hutchinson's third of the season, all coming within the last two games.
The result signaled an end to the Ladies' non-conference portion of their 2015 schedule. From here on out, Kenyon, which already owns a 3-0 conference mark, will only play against North Coast Athletic Conference teams.
Sophomore Katelyn Hutchinson put the finishing touches on Kenyon's 3-0 win over Washington and Jefferson
on Sunday afternoon. Her goal against the Presidents was her third in Kenyon's last two games.
