CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. --
Tim Connolly scored 22 points and went 4-for-8 from behind the three-point line to lead the Kenyon College Lords basketball team to an 80-75 victory over host Wabash College on Saturday.
It was the Lords' third straight win, lifting their North Coast Athletic Conference record to 4-4 and their overall record to 7-8, matching their final win total from one season ago.
Connolly's first two three-balls lifted Kenyon from an 11-5 deficit early in the first half. Later, with 6:50 remaining in the half, Connolly drove the lane and passed to
Tyler Kimble, who drained a three-pointer to give the Lords their first lead, 22-20. On the next possession, after a block by
Brien Comey, the same Kenyon combination scored another three to increase the lead.
Kenyon led, 37-34, at halftime.
The Lords gave up the lead just twice, both times in the second half. Both times, however, Kenyon took the lead back seconds later. The first time,
Phillip Crampton drained a three-pointer midway through the half to take a 54-52 advantage. Later, Connolly hit a layup to tie the game at 65-all with four minutes remaining. Kimble later hit yet another three-pointer to give the Lords the lead for good.
The game was closely contested throughout and the Kenyon second-half lead never grew more than six, as Wabash (8-7, 2-6 NCAC) continued to apply pressure with free throws and defensive rebounds. Connolly's final three-pointer, which came with 1:42 to play, gave the Lords a 73-68 lead. From there, the Lords' defense cracked down, forcing a pair of turnovers and allowing only one field goal the rest of the way.
Comey finished with a double-double, registering 15 points and 13 rebounds. He also led Kenyon with three blocks. Kimble had not only a season-high, but a career-high, 13 points, while
Matt Shifrin and
Alexander Powell each finished with nine points.
Johnny Jager, Evan Frank and Daniel Purvlicis each scored 13 points for Wabash. Frank also had 16 rebounds, helping the Little Giants build a 47-35 advantage on the boards.
The Lords will look to make it four wins in a row Wednesday, when they host Wittenberg University at Tomsich Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
