Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oberlin overwhelms Kenyon from three-point range

GAMBIER, Ohio – Oberlin College's Jack Poyle tallied a game-high 21 points including hitting 5-of-8 from three-point land as the Yeomen led from start to finish defeating Kenyon College 76-59 Wednesday night  in North Coast Athletic Conference play at Tomsich Arena.

The Yeomen connected on 13 three-pointers and hit 54% from beyond the arc in the victory.

Leading the Lords was sophomore Alexander Powell who matched his season high with 12 points while also grabbing five rebounds. Brien Comey added eight points and five rebounds while Tim Connolly contributed seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Five other Lords scored at least four points in the loss.

Oberlin set the tone right of the gates jumping on the Lords with a 13-3 run just 3:34 into the contest. The visitors hit 5-of-6 from the field including two three-balls from Poyle. On the opposite side, Kenyon opened the game hitting just one of its first seven attempts.

The Lords (7-11, 4-7 NCAC) shook off the slow start to pull the deficit to within four points (20-16) after Tyler Kimble drained a three-pointer at the 9:07 mark. Oberlin followed with baskets on its next three possessions though and went back up double digits (27-16) after Randy Ollie hit a jumper with 6:40 left.

Kenyon got to within five points on two more occasions but Oberlin maintained its lead and took a 36-27 advantage into the locker room.

With Oberlin shooting 53% from the field and 54% from three-point range after the first half, Kenyon looked to tighten up defensively.

That didn't happen and the Yeomen continued their offensive onslaught.

Oberlin's first pair of made shots in the second frame was from downtown and they went up 42-29 after Eli Silverman-Lloyd's long ball just a little over two minutes in.

Kenyon never was able to get the game any closer than the nine-point halftime deficit as Oberlin went up as many as 22 points on a couple of occasions.

In fact, the Yeomen shot almost as good from three-land in the second half (53.8) as they did in the first.

Next up for Kenyon is a trip to Allegheny College this Saturday starting at 3 p.m.
