MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Kenyon Ladies ran their winning streak to five games after their 61-57 road win against Allegheny College (10-9, 5-5 NCAC) Saturday afternoon at the David V. Wise Center. Behind
Lane Davis' 14 points, Kenyon's frontcourt outscored Allegheny's 34-22 in the paint, while the bench helped tally 27 Ladies points compared to 16 for the Gators.
Sophomore
Griffin Tullis added 10 points and pulled down a season-high nine rebounds from her post position. Kenyon's other low-post players,
Ifeoma Archimalo and
Charlotte Bussema, totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds. Additionally, the Ladies got nine points each from
Sidney Cera and
Bailey Dominguez.
Things got off to a really slow start for the Ladies who were down 8-0 until Archimalo scored a layup with 6:43 left in the first. Allegheny continued to lead until the final two minutes as the Ladies closed on a 6-0 run courtesy of two layups from Davis and a bucket from Bussema.
Second-quarter action saw the Ladies go up as many as eight points (29-21) after Hannay O'Day's layup with 2:40 left. The visitors maintained their lead throughout the quarter before taking a 31-26 lead into intermission.
After the first 20 minutes of play, the Ladies had held the Gators to just 27.6% shooting and 1-of-10 from downtown.
In the third, the Ladies cranked out a 9-3 run capped off by another Dominguez three-pointer which moved Kenyon (14-6, 8-3 NCAC) up 45-36 with 3:20 to play. But the home team responded again and closed the period with a 7-0 stretch which was highlighted by Delaney Arbore's three-ball.
With just a two-point lead (45-43) heading into the fourth, the Ladies needed a few buckets to secure victory. After the Gators tied the game at 45 on a layup from Rachel Vigliotti, Davis scored a layup and Tullis followed on the next possession with a three-ball from the right wing to push Kenyon up 50-45.
Allegheny got it to within two points on a couple more occasions but the Ladies weathered Allegheny's attack a few more times and went up seven (59-52) after Cera hit a jumper with 1:46 left. The Gators got to within just three points the rest of the way.
