BETHANY, W. Va. – For the second straight game, the Kenyon Ladies (3-1) basketball team dominated on the offensive end and came up with an 85-57 victory over Bethany College on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Hummel Fieldhouse.
Senior
Bailey Dominguez led the team with 18 points as she hit seven shots, four of which were from long range.
Paige Matijasich and
Ifeoma Archimalo combined for 24 points and 13 rebounds while
Jessica Gerber and
Miranda Diesz each added 10. Additionally, fourth-year
Charlotte Bussema chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
In the contest, the Ladies shot 51.7% (31-of-60) from the field including hitting half of their three-point attempts (11-of-22). Kenyon also out-rebounded Bethany 41-29 and had a 38-16 points in the paint advantage.
Things were close in the first quarter before Kenyon tallied the last five points to take a 19-11 lead into the second. Up by three (14-11), Matijasich started the run with a three-ball before Bussema closed the quarter with a tip-in.
In the second, the Ladies got up as many as 15 points following an Archimalo layup at the 5:31 mark. On the other end, Bethany only pulled to within eight points once (37-29) after free throws from Payge Farmer with about a minute left. Kenyon ended the second with a layup from Archimalo and three-pointer from Dominguez to take a 42-29 lead into the break.
Second-half action saw the Ladies' offense improve even more as they hit 63% from the field and a sizzling 80% from three-point range.
A Diesz long ball late in the third brought the score to 64-42, Kenyon's biggest lead.
Bethany's offense could never get in gear in the second half as they hit just 9-of-27 (33%) from the field. By the final buzzer, the Ladies had gone up their biggest margin, 85-57, on a Matijasich free throw with eight seconds left.
The Ladies will break for Thanksgiving before coming back November 27 when they host Earlham College at 3 p.m.
