GAMBIER, Ohio – Wabash College's Logan White, Harrison Hallstrom and Colten Garland combined to score 63 of the team's 74 points on Saturday afternoon as they handed the Kenyon College men's basketball team a 74-56 defeat in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
An early 5-0 deficit for the Little Giants was erased with a 16-2 run that lasted nearly five minutes.
Hallstrom started the stretch with a jumper in the paint. Three possessions later, Garland drained a three-pointer tying the game at 7 and the next time down the floor, Garland hit another three giving Wabash a 10-7 advantage. The visitor's final bucket of the run came once again to Hallstrom who scored another jumper in the paint. Wabash led 16-7 with 14:17 left.
The Lords fought back to cut the deficit to six points (18-12) with 9:27 left after
Will Sigl converted a foul shot but that was the closest Kenyon got the rest of the half. CJ McMann's two foul shots at the 6:40 mark put Wabash up its biggest margin (28-14) and they ended the first half up 37-26.
Wabash outscored Kenyon 16-4 in the point and converted 5-of-9 from three-point range while holding Kenyon to 33 percent shooting.
In the second half, Wabash was once again up by double-digits (49-39) after two free from White at the 12:20 mark. That's when the Lords started to chip away again.
On the following possession, an offensive rebound came to freshman
Carter Powell who found his brother, junior
Alexander Powell who hit a three-pointer. Kenyon's next points came on an and-one conversion, this time from the younger Powell. With 11 minutes left, the Lords trailed 49-45.
Over the next 5:30 minutes, the Lords got the deficit to within three points on three different occasions. Their last came with 5:30 remaining as
Matt Shifrin drained a three-pointer bringing the score to 61-58.
Wabash, however, never allowed Kenyon to get within a single possession after that.
Shifrin led the Lords with 14 points and he dished out five assists.
Alexander Powell and
Phillip Crampton each tallied 13 points and combined for 11 rebounds. Additionally, Sigl and
Ethan Shapiro registered seven points. The visitors outscored Kenyon 36-20 in the paint and held the Lords to just 27 percent shooting from three-point range.
After finals, the Lords will travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on December 17 for a 3 p.m. conference game.

College 74-65 on Saturday afternoon at Tomsich Arena.
