BEXLEY, Ohio – The perfect season pushes on for the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team, as it improved to 6-0 with Wednesday night's 9-7 victory over the previously undefeated Capital University Crusaders.
The Ladies led the game wire-to-wire after jumping out to an early four-goal lead. The first goal from the Crusaders did not come until there was 4:11 remaining in the first half. After a second Crusader goal, Kenyon freshman attack
Cassie Hudson-Heck scored with 17 seconds left to complete a first-half hat trick that helped give the Ladies a 5-2 lead at the break.
Kenyon did not allow Capital to trim the deficit below two goals at any point in the second half. In fact, every time the Crusaders scored a goal in the second half, it was followed by one from the Ladies.
Throughout the game, the Ladies got excellent play from their defense and in particular sophomore goalkeeper
Allie Dumas, who amassed eleven saves.
The Crusaders (5-1) were within two goals with 3:17 to play, but Kenyon senior midfielder
Jane Symmes scored with 40 seconds remaining to end any threat of a Crusader comeback.
Four Ladies were responsible for all of the team's goals and assists. Hudson-Heck and Symmes each scored three goals, junior attack
Allie McLane scored two goals with one assist and senior attack
Kelley Russell finished with a goal and two helpers.
Next up for the Ladies, who are 6-0 for the first time since 2010, is a battle with Wittenberg University in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Mavec Field.
Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Dumas supported the Kenyon defense by making
11 saves during the team's 9-7 win over previously undefeated Capital University.
