Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon withstands late onslaught from Oberlin

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team's domination of the Oberlin College Yeomen continued Wednesday as the Lords posted a 13-10 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at McBride Field. Dating back to the 1994 season, Kenyon now owns 26 consecutive wins over Oberlin.

The final score made the game look a little closer than it actually was. Kenyon held a 4-1 lead after one quarter, was up 8-1 at the half and 12-3 after the third quarter. With the big lead, the Lords took their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter and Oberlin capitalized. The Yeomen scored seven straight goals to turn what was a drubbing into a close game.

Senior Alec Foresta got the Lords on the board first. Robert Jacobs and Pierce Kraft each fired in two straight scores and Kenyon had a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter. Following goals by Chris Ferraro and Nick Vitale, Kraft scored again with one second left in the half, giving Kenyon an 8-1 cushion at the break.

Four different players scored for Kenyon in the third, including Emilio Sosa, who also started out the fourth quarter with a goal that put the Lords ahead by ten with 13:40 remaining in the game.

Kraft finished the contest with a team-high three goals for the Lords, who were actually outshot by the Yeomen, 43-42. Jacobs and Vitale both finished with two goals and two assists. Sosa had two goals and an assist, while Ferraro chalked up one goal and two helpers.

Despite trailing by ten, the Yeomen never threw in the towel. Eric Hager went on a rampage in which he scored twice and assisted twice on four straight Oberlin goals, all of which were tallied in a five-minute span. His play ignited the Yeomen, who won seven of the last nine face-offs and outshot Kenyon 17-5 in the final quarter.

The run, however, was too late for the Yeomen, who fell to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in the NCAC. The Lords survived the scare and improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. With two games still left on the regular-season schedule, the Lords' total of 10 wins matches their best output since the 2012 season when they finished 10-5.
