Symmes, Ladies breeze by Battling Bishops

DELAWARE, Ohio – Kenyon College (8-2, 2-2 NCAC) had no trouble Wednesday night as it defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 16-5 in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game at Selby Stadium. Senior Jane Symmes led the team with five goals and two assists while six others tallied at least one goal.

It took a few minutes for the Ladies to find their stride but at the 25:16 mark of the first half, the visitors from Gambier began to take over.

Kat Englert tallied the game's first goal at that time and about three minutes later, Symmes pushed the Ladies ahead 2-0 with her 25th score of the season.

Kenyon scored the game's first eight goals before OWU eventually got on the board with 2:29 left following a Sofia Corrao goal. During the opening half, sophomore goal keeper Allie Dumas saved four shots while the offense out-shot Ohio Wesleyan 24-11. Kenyon held a 9-2 lead at the break.

Second-half action saw the Ladies surrender the first goal of the period to the Battling Bishops which brought the score to 9-3. But after that, Kenyon scored seven straight times and moved its lead to 16-3. Esme Cole tallied the Ladies' final goal, her first of the year in fact, during that run with 3:30 left.

By game's end, the Ladies held a 40-20 advantage in shots, 28 of which were on goal. Englert scored four times while Allie McLane and Cassie Hudson-Heck each scored a pair.
