GAMBIER, Ohio –
Kat Englert and
Allie McLane got the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team off to a fast start Saturday at McBride Field. The two ended up combining for 14 points while steering the Ladies to a convincing 18-5 win over the DePauw University Tigers.
It was a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win for the Ladies, who ended a brief two-game slide and improved their overall record to 7-2 and their NCAC mark to 1-2. On the other side of the field, DePauw fell to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Englert, a sophomore, scored the first goal of the game off an assist from McLane. Less than 30 seconds later, Kenyon freshman
Cassie Hudson-Heck scored off another assist from McLane.
Gia Biaggi fired in Kenyon's third goal and Englert followed up with two more goals and an assist on a
Jane Symmes goal that gave the Ladies a 6-0 lead ten minutes into the contest.
DePauw answered with its first two goals of the game, but Kenyon closed out the half on a 3-1 run with goals from Hudson-Heck, Symmes and McLane. That got Kenyon to the break with a 9-3 lead.
That six-goal margin never decreased. The two teams traded goals early in the second half and then the Ladies closed out the game with seven unanswered scores. Englert had three goals in that closing run and freshman
Mary Grace Detmer had two.
Englert finished with a game-high eight points on a game-high seven goals and one assist. McLane turned in a six-point game with two goals and a game-high four assists. Symmes added two goals and an assist, while Hudson-Heck rounded out the Kenyon scoring leaders with three goals and two assists.
While the Kenyon offense was clicking, the defense held DePauw to just 18 shots, while forcing 25 turnovers and six failed clears.
Kenyon takes to the road for its next contest, a Wednesday-night NCAC game at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Junior Allie McLane tallied a season-high six points on two goals and four assists Saturday.
Her play helped lift the Ladies lacrosse team to an 18-5 win over DePauw University.
