SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords jumped on the Wittenberg University Tigers early Saturday night and rode out a 5-1 North Coast Athletic Conference soccer win at Edwards-Maurer Field.
The win ran the No. 2-ranked Lords' record to 8-0-0. It was also the Lords' tenth-straight victory, dating back to last year, over conference opponents. On the other side of the field, the loss dropped host Wittenberg to 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in NCAC action.
Senior
Josh Lee got the Lords on the board first and he was quickly followed by
Jordan Glassman, who doubled the Kenyon lead in the blink of an eye. Lee struck at the 6:08 mark for his first goal of the season. At the 6:34 mark, Glassman rang up his second goal of the season and the Lords never looked back.
Before intermission, junior
Woo Jeon loaded up a pass for
Oliver Wynn, who finished the play, tallying his third goal of the season and giving the Lords a 3-0 advantage.
The barrage did not let up in the second half.
Tony Amolo added to the Kenyon total with a goal at the 47:17 mark and then assisted sophomore
Alberto Carmona on another Kenyon score at the 54:38 mark.
Back in the first half, a Kenyon own goal was the only thing that spoiled another Lords' shutout. Six of Kenyon's eight wins have been of the shutout variety.
The Lords went on to out-shoot Wittenberg, 25-4, forcing Wittenberg goalkeeper Jack Snider to make 13 saves.
Kenyon will now move on to play its final non-conference contest of the season. That game will take place on the road Tuesday night at Case Western Reserve University.
Tony Amolo (No. 8) scored once and assisted on two other Kenyon goals
Saturday night. His play helped steer the Lords to a 5-1 win at Wittenberg.
