Case Western stuns No. 2 Kenyon in overtime

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Despite being out-shot by a whopping 19-5 margin, Case Western Reserve University edged No. 2 (NSCAA) Kenyon College 1-0 on Tuesday night in a non-conference men's soccer match ad DiSanto Field.

About five minutes into the first overtime, Josh Wargo got a long ball around the middle of the 18-yard box, squeezed to his left and fired into the back-right corner of the net halting the Lords' 8-0 start to the season.

It was the only on-goal attempt of the night for the Spartans.

Aiding CWRU throughout the match was junior goalie Calvin Boyle who recorded 10 saves against the Kenyon attack.

In the first half, Kenyon yielded just one shot to Case which came in the 15th minute to Jacob Grindel. On the Lords end, junior Oliver Wynn had a pair of on-goal attempts with a header in the 29th minute and a shot in the 36th while Jordan Glassman and Brice Koval each had looks.

After halftime, the Lords continued their assault on Case's goal. One of the best opportunities came to senior Josh Lee. In the 56th minute, the midfielder fired from the right side and smacked the left post.

Later, Wynn had a look driving down the right side and Glassman had an attempt with about five minutes left but both were saved by Boyle.

During the first overtime, Wynn had another opportunity as a cross came near the right end line, but an attempt in mid-air came into the arms of Boyle again.

Two minutes later, Wargo delivered for the home team.

The Lords will try and bounce back this coming Saturday when they travel to DePauw University for a 2:30 p.m. NCAC contest.
