SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies soccer team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Wittenberg University on Saturday night. It was the Ladies' third straight win against the Tigers dating back to 2014.
The only goal to be had came from Kenyon freshman
Gwyneth Phillips. In the 18th minute, she tallied her second collegiate goal to give the Ladies all they needed.
Wittenberg had a pair of opportunities in the 24th and 34th minutes, but shots from Shannon Brueck and Kyrie Bumpus came into the arms of first-year goalie
Jillian Countey.
In the second half, the Tigers got two more on-goal attempts within the first ten minutes, but again Countey was there for a couple more denials.
Kenyon's defense allowed just two more looks from Wittenberg after the 55-minute mark en route to a shutout win.
Countey performed well in goal as she notched her first career shutout while collecting six saves, her second-highest total of the season.
Wittenberg out-shot Kenyon 10-6 and held a 5-2 advantage in corners.
Next up for the Ladies is a trip to DePauw University on October 1 for a noon match.
Freshman Gwyneth Phillips scored her second collegiate goal on Saturday as the Ladies defeated Wittenberg 1-0.
The victory snapped a three-match losing streak and gave Kenyon a 1-0 mark in NCAC play.
