GREENCASTLE, Ind. – A day after being upset by Earlham College, the Kenyon Ladies field hockey team turned the tables on DePauw University in a 2-0 road win which was highlighted by
Sarah Speroff's 11-save performance. Despite being out-shot 17-8, the Ladies and their goalkeeper held strong throughout the contest.
The victory kept Kenyon in front of the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 5-1 mark and improved its overall record to 6-3.
Nearly two and a half minutes in, the Tigers gave Speroff a dose of what was to come throughout the day. A penalty corner from Rose Revolinski made its way to Addie Ball who fired. But Kenyon's third-year goalie was waiting.
About 10 minutes later, Revolinski got another corner but a shot from Reilly Bruce was saved again by Speroff.
The scoreless tie was finally broken at the 15:13 mark. A shot from
Katelyn Hutchinson was saved by Tigers goalie Sarah Foye but the rebound came out to sophomore
Hannah Paterakis who fired a shot between the pipes for a 1-0 Ladies lead.
DePauw had two more on-goal attempts the rest of the half but neither rang true.
Second-half action saw the Tigers have an 8-0 penalty corner advantage. In the face of more pressure, Speroff continued to hold her own as she notched four more saves in the second stanza.
Her final save with about three minutes left sparked the Ladies to their final goal. At 68:41,
Weezie Foster tallied her fifth score of the year and pushed Kenyon ahead for its final tally, 2-0.
Next up for the Ladies is another big NCAC matchup, this time at home against Denison University on October 1 starting at noon.
Goalkeeper Sarah Speroff performed admirably on Sunday recording 11 saves in Kenyon's 2-0 win at DePauw.
The victory improved Kenyon's record to 6-3 and 5-1 in conference play.
