Ladies bounce back with NCAC win at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies (2-1, 1-0 NCAC) field hockey team got back in the win column on Wednesday as they defeated The College of Wooster 3-0 in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at John P. Papp Stadium. It was the Ladies' sixth straight win in the series between the two schools.

Hannah Paterakis provided all the scoring Kenyon needed in the affair with her first career goal in the opening half. She later added her first-ever assist. Defensively, junior Sarah Speroff was superb in between the pipes as she notched a season-high eight saves.

Kenyon's first goal of the contest came around the seven-minute mark. Paterakis took a penalty corner and found teammate Shannon Hart who fired but was stopped by a Fighting Scots defender. The ball deflected back to Paterakis who then sent it home.

After Paterakis' goal, the Fighting Scots got two shots off but one was blocked and the other, a shot from Leah Prescott, resulted in a team defensive save.

The Ladies cranked up the pressure after that and took eight consecutive shots with the final attempt of the stretch resulting in a score from junior Katelyn Hutchinson.

Down by two to start the second half, Wooster put a lot of stress on the Kenyon defense and Speroff. For a 10-minute span early, the Fighting Scots took six shots on goal. Unfortunately for the home team, Kenyon's goalie was there to save each attempt.

After Wooster' offensive onslaught, Kenyon added its final goal of the match in the 52nd minute. Hutchinson scored her second of the game this time from fellow junior Weezie Foster.

Kenyon out-shot Wooster 14-10 and held a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Due up next for the Ladies is a trip to Washington and Lee University on September 11 starting at noon.
