GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon women's basketball team completed the season-series sweep of the Wittenberg University Tigers with its Wednesday-night 55-40 win at Tomsich Arena.
In the two-game regular-season series, the Ladies outscored the Tigers by a combined score of 119-76.
Â
Wednesday, Wittenberg carried a 13-12 lead into the second quarter, but connected on just eight of 38 shots over the final three frames. That included an 0-for-10 showing from three-point range.
Â
Kenyon's lockdown defense allowed the Ladies to quickly erase their one-point deficit and go on a large scoring run of 27-13 over the next 15:43. The run was capped by back-to-back three-pointers from
Bailey Dominguez, who helped push the Ladies' lead to 13.
Â
Dominguez ended up leading all scorers with 14 points. She was 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Lane Davis chipped in with ten points and seven rebounds, while
Paige Matijasich scored eight off the bench.
Jessica Gerber also scored eight points in her second start of the season and
Griffin Tullis collected a team-high nine rebounds and five assists to go along with four points.
Â
Kenyon (9-4, 4-1 NCAC) held its opponent under 30 percent shooting from the field for the sixth time this season and improved to 6-0 in such games. Wednesday's game also marked the third time that an opponent made just one three-point shot against the Ladies, as the Tigers were just 1-of-16 from beyond the perimeter.
Â
The 6.3 percent output from Wittenberg is the lowest opposing three-point field goal percentage the Ladies have allowed since January 16, 2016. On that date, The College of Wooster managed just one make in 16 tries as well.
Â
The Tigers (5-10, 1-5 NCAC) had no players reach double-digit scoring marks against the Ladies. Sydney Mayle and Haley Dannemiller tied for the team lead with eight points apiece.
Â
The win keeps Kenyon a game back of the first-place DePauw University Tigers, who the Ladies will matchup with on Saturday. Opening tip for that game, to be held on DePauw's campus, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Â
Senior Bailey Dominguez was 4-of-7 on three-point shots Wednesday night and helped
steer the Ladies to a 55-40 conference win against the visiting Wittenberg Tigers.
