WOOSTER, Ohio – Kenyon College junior
Delaney Swanson piled up team-high totals of 15 kills and 17 digs Tuesday night to lead the Ladies volleyball team to a 3-0 win over The College of Wooster Fighting Scots. The Ladies, who snapped a brief three-game skid, cruised to victory by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-15.
Swanson connected on those 15 kills in 32 attempts with just two errors. Her hitting percentage of .406 was her second best this season. It also went a long way in the Ladies hitting .325 as a team. That was also a second-best mark for the season.
Backing up Swanson were sophomores
Maleah Miller and
Haley Witschey. Miller had seven kills and no errors, while Witschey had nine kills and just two miscues. Additionally, junior
Schuyler Stupica contributed eight kills and just one error.
Senior
Jensen Shurbert posted assists on 41 of Kenyon's 48 kills. She also had four service aces. Her classmate,
Rachael Thorson, chipped in with 13 digs.
Wooster (14-11, 2-4 NCAC) got off to a good start, building an 8-4 lead at the start of the first set. Kenyon (13-9, 3-3 NCAC) called timeout, got back on the court and chipped away at the Fighting Scots' lead until a Swanson kill knotted things up at 11-11. The Ladies then went on to finish strong, closing on an 8-3 run powered by kills from Miller, Swanson and junior
Alexi Donnelly.
The second set was tight up until Kenyon grabbed a 17-15 lead on a Witschey kill. After that, the Ladies finished strong once again, closing out the set on an 8-3 run fueled by kills from Swanson, Miller and Witschey.
Kenyon then finished off the Fighting Scots by leading wire-to-wire in the third set. After the Ladies jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, Wooster never got closer than three points the rest of the way. Swanson had five kills in the set and both Stupica and sophomore
Mackenzie Bruzzio smashed four apiece.
The Ladies now turn their attention to Hiram College, where they'll play another conference contest against the Terriers on Friday at 7 p.m.
