Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladies edge Oberlin, earn NCAC regular season title

OBERLIN, Ohio – A 2-1 win for the Kenyon women's soccer team at Oberlin College combined with an Allegheny College loss earlier in the day helped the Ladies seal the team's first outright North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season title since 2006. The victory, Kenyon's fifth in a row, moved the team's record to 8-6-2 and clinched the top seed for the conference tourney set to start next week.

Game times and opponents will be announced this coming weekend.

In the first half, the Yeowomen had a better offensive flow as they outshot the Ladies 7-4. Oberlin had two good opportunities. Its first came at 34:28 when Bethany Gen fired from the right end line and watched as the ball hit the crossbar.

Oberlin's next solid shot came from Maddie Kimball. With less than three minutes left in the half, Kimball was within eight yards of the net but her hard hit was denied in a highlight-reel play from Ladies keeper Jillian Countey.

In the second half, the Ladies found two goals to pull ahead.

Kenyon's first score occurred just a little over three minutes in. Emma Klug passed to a streaking Fallon Raviol along the Ladies' sideline and Raviol lifted a shot into the left corner of the net for her second goal of the year.

The Ladies kept the pressure up and found their second goal at 75:35. A Caroline McNeer corner kick came to Campbell Fee nearing the left post and the senior midfielder fired into the upper part of the net. It was her team-leading fifth goal of 2017.

That turned out to be a crucial goal as Oberlin scored with about five minutes left in the match. Lucy Fredell chipped a through ball to Gwennie Gardiner who finished into the right corner of the net. It was the first goal the Ladies had allowed all conference season.

Oberlin never came close tying the match after that though as Kenyon played keep-away for the final minutes of the match.

Despite securing the regular-season title and No. 1 seed, the Ladies still have something to play for this coming Saturday at Allegheny. Since 1984, no Ladies team has ever finished the NCAC season undefeated. Kenyon will enter that match with a 6-0-1 mark.
