Ladies make history in 2-0 win at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. - For the first time since joining the North Coast Athletic Conference in 1984, the Kenyon College women's soccer team went undefeated in league action. The Ladies secured the unblemished mark with a 2-0 victory over the Allegheny College Gators on Saturday and improved to 9-6-2 and 7-0-1 in the NCAC.

Additionally, Kenyon goalkeeper Jillian Countey claimed her 10th shutout of the season. That mark ties a single-season record for the Ladies set by Alissa Poolpol in 2015.

The Ladies played stalwart defense, limiting the Gators (7-10, NCAC 4-4) to just seven shots on the match. Both teams struggled to find any offensive opportunities in the first half, with Kenyon mustering six shots and Allegheny five.

The second half was a different story. After halftime, the Ladies unleashed a hailstorm on the Allegheny frame, racking up eighteen shots in the second period. In the 55th minute, freshman Caroline McNeer notched Kenyon's first point off a corner kick deflection, assisted by Gillian Blackwell. The goal was McNeer's second of the season.

Junior Brianna Maggard doubled the Kenyon lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the contest. Meredith Rogers found Maggard on a breakaway, and from 15 yards out, Maggard socked the ball into the back of the net to put Kenyon up 2-0. Like McNeer, the goal was her second of the season.

The win further solidified the Ladies' first-place perch in the NCAC standings. Kenyon clinched the top seed with a 2-1 win over Oberlin College on Oct. 24.

With the regular season over, the Ladies will host an NCAC tournament semifinal on October 31 at 2 p.m. Kenyon's opponent will be determined later tonight.
