Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ladies halt No. 10 DePauw’s winning streak

GAMBIER, Ohio – The top two teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference – DePauw University and Kenyon College – gave fans a game to remember on Saturday as the Ladies edged the tenth-ranked Tigers 70-64 on Senior Day. The loss ended DePauw's 19-game winning streak.

It was the fourth time DePauw (22-2, 14-1 NCAC) came into Tomsich Arena with a ranking in the top-ten and the Ladies were able to earn their first victory while clinching the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament which begins on Feb. 21.

Seniors Bailey Dominguez and Sidney Cera led the way for Kenyon (17-6, 11-3 NCAC) as Dominguez dropped in a game-high 16 points including 4-of-9 shooting from three-point land and Cera contributing 11. Another fourth-year player, Miranda Diesz, tallied eight points, five rebounds and two steals while senior Charlotte Bussema added nine points and a game-high three assists. Ifeoma Archimalo had a solid performance as well scoring six and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

Saturday's game went back and forth throughout as neither team had a lead bigger than five points until the final tally.

In the first, Claire Ryan gave DePauw a 5-0 advantage at 7:12 before the Ladies reeled off an 8-1 run capped off by a Dominguez three-ball pushing the score to 8-6, Kenyon. By the end of the first, the Ladies had a 13-12 lead after a Diesz layup.

With less than two minutes left in the second, Ryan drove for a layup pushing the Tigers up their biggest margin, 24-19. Kenyon scored the final four points of the quarter though and took the one-point deficit (24-23) into the halftime locker room.

Early second-half action saw the visitors go up five again on a Sydney Kopp three-ball. But just a bit later, Griffin Tullis converted an and-one opportunity and tied the game at 28 with 7:50 left in the third. There were a whopping 11 lead changes in the period as well as six ties. Heading to the fourth, the game was knotted at 46.

In the fourth with the game tied at 50, Kenyon hit a little spurt to go up 56-51 after a Paige Matijasich jumper. The Ladies never lost the lead again after that. DePauw got to within one point three more times with its final chance at 63-62, but Dominguez hit a clutch step-back three-pointer from the right corner with 29 seconds left to essentially ice the game.

Kenyon added a few more free throws down the stretch from Jessica Gerber and Lane Davis as well.

The Ladies' offense was pretty efficient on Saturday as every player who entered scored a bucket while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. They also shot 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the free throw line.

Next up for Kenyon is a February 15 date against The College of Wooster at 6 p.m.
