on Wittenberg University in Tuesday night's NCAC Tournament quarterfinal.
GAMBIER, Ohio – For the second straight season and for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the Kenyon College women's basketball team will host a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game. That game will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tomsich Arena, where the Ladies will entertain the Wittenberg University Tigers.
Kenyon enters the eight-team conference tournament as the No. 2 seed with an overall record of 18-7 and an NCAC mark of 12-4. Wittenberg is the No. 7 seed and owns a 10-15 overall record and a 6-10 conference record. Kenyon swept the regular-season series against the Tigers, winning on the road 64-36 and then at home 55-40.
Since the two teams first met in the 1987-88 season, Wittenberg has built a 43-21 all-time record against Kenyon. The Tigers are also 4-3 all-time against Kenyon in NCAC Tournament games and that includes a 67-60 home win in the 2014-15 season, the last time these two teams met in tournament play.
Kenyon prides itself on defense and currently ranks ninth in the nation with a defensive field goal percentage of .317. The Ladies also hold opponents to an average of just 51.6 points per game, a mark that ranks 24th in the nation.
On the offensive end, the Ladies average 63.2 points per game and are a team that likes to share the wealth. No player has a double-digit scoring average, but six average six points or more. Senior
Bailey Dominguez leads the way with 9.9 points per game, while sophomore
Jessica Gerber adds 7.7 points per game. Those two have connected on a combined total of 86 three-pointers this season.
Wittenberg, trying to shake a current three-game losing streak, scores an average of 55.5 points per game and yields an average of 59.4 points per game. The Tigers defend the three-point shot well and they rank third-best in the conference with an average of 9.8 steals per game.
Individually, sophomore Alex Kiess is the Tigers' catalyst. She pours in 13.1 points per game to go along with 3.2 rebounds per game. Freshman Alexis Perry adds an average 7.2 points per game.
The winner of this quarterfinal game will move on to play in Friday's semifinal against the winner of the Ohio Wesleyan University versus Denison University quarterfinal. Once the quarterfinals are compete, Friday's semifinal games, as well as Saturday's championship game, will all be held on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
As mandated by the conference office, ticket prices for all quarterfinal games will be $7 for adults, $5 for fans with an NCAC Guest Pass and $5 for children and students without an NCAC institution ID. Students who present a valid NCAC institution ID at the gate will be admitted free of charge.
