OBERLIN, Ohio – Oberlin College ended a 19-game losing streak and tied its biggest margin of victory over Kenyon College dating back to January 21, 1984 on Wednesday night as the Yeomen claimed a 80-60 victory over the Lords.
The home team's 80 points and 56.1 percent shooting were season-highs in North Coast Athletic Conference competition as well.
Kenyon (5-16, 4-11 NCAC) had a number of contributors during the night. Leading the way was
Bennett Grigull who scored nine points.
Phillip Crampton and
Ryan O'Neil each tallied eight points while
Will Sigl came off the bench to score a half-dozen and grab a game-high eight rebounds. Additionally,
Tim Black and
Alex Cate each reached season-high points totals with five and six, respectively.
It didn't take long for Oberlin to get in gear and blow open the game. Just 4:48 into the contest, Oberlin attained its first double-digit lead at 15-5 after a layup from Eric Holt.
The Yeomen maintained that double-figure lead the rest of the half before going up their biggest margin at the break, 51-32. For Kenyon, they never got any closer than 13 points on a pair of occasions as Crampton and O'Neil hit a pair of three-balls in the final 3:38.
Oberlin was extremely efficient in the first half as they shot 67.7 percent (21-of-31) while Kenyon hit 11-of-21 (35.5%).
In the second stanza, the Yeomen continued their solid offensive showing going up as many as 30 points three different times. The Lords struggled to keep pace again shooting 37.5 percent and just 22.2 percent from the three-point line.
Next up for Kenyon is a home date with DePauw University on February 11 at 3 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Lords.
