NAPLES, Fla. – The Kenyon Ladies softball team wrapped up its spring break trip with an 8-2 win against Edgewood College and 7-5 loss to Geneva College (PA) on Saturday at North Collier Regional Park in Naples. After a week in the Sunshine State, Kenyon moved its record to 8-8.
GAME ONE
Amanda Coyle went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs batted in to help lead the Ladies to victory against Edgewood during the first game of the morning.
Kenyon got out to a 2-0 lead in the first as freshmen
Allison Stratman and
Lauren Graf had RBIs.
Following a scoreless second frame, Edgewood cracked into Kenyon's 2-0 advantage as Jordan Anderson hit a two-out single through the right side plating Sarah Elliott.
Then in the home half of the third, the Ladies blew the game open.
Grace Pilz hit a one-out double driving in
Britny Patterson to start the four-run inning. After
Nicole Horita scored Pilz on a bunt, Coyle followed with a triple to left field scoring two more. Coyle later stole home and pushed the Ladies' lead to 7-1.
Edgewood's only other run came in the in the fourth as Elliott singled and brought home Sabrina Luedtke.
The Ladies' last tally saw Pilz score on a fielding error.
Coyle and Patterson were Kenyon's only batters to record multiple hits while
Keely Sweet tossed a complete game, scattered eight hits, two runs and fanned seven. She also helped induce a combined 13 flyouts and groundouts for her sixth win in the circle this season.
GAME TWO
Geneva's Casey Farkasovsky spurred the Golden Tornadoes onto victory in game two as Kenyon fell 7-5.
In the top of the first, Farkasovsky smacked a two-run bomb over the left field fence pushing Geveva ahead 2-0.
Kenyon came right back though in the bottom of the inning as
Amanda Ogata hit her first homer of the year to left center. It was a two-run shot and it tied the game.
After a scoreless second inning, the Ladies got their first lead. With Ogata at third base, Graf registered a sacrifice fly to left field. Sweet came up two batters later and her single to right field plated two more.
Down 5-2, Geneva came back in the fifth with five runs to recapture the lead for good.
Clara Sevy had a two-out single to right field cutting the deficit to 5-4. In the following at-bat, Farkasovsky delivered again, this time with a three-run homer pushing the Golden Tornadoes back in front 7-5.
Kenyon had opportunities in the sixth and seventh frames as they got a combined three runners on base, but nothing came of it as Farkasovsky got a few popouts and groundouts to secure the win.
The Ladies will be back in action in a week when they travel to Otterbein University for a non-conference twinbill starting at 1 p.m. in Westerville.
