Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Ladies hold off Cardinals in road test

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- A trio of Ladies combined to score all the Kenyon College goals in Wednesday evening's, non-conference, 8-7, women's lacrosse win over the host Otterbein University Cardinals.

Kat Englert led the way for the Ladies with foul goals, but it was sophomore Alexis Redford-Maung Maung who scored the team's last, and most important, two goals. Sophomore Lucy Somers also had two goals while classmate Cassie Hudson-Heck was busy with three assists.

The back-and-forth game featured five ties and three lead changes.

Otterbein started off the scoring with two goals in the first five minutes. The Ladies would not take long to respond, as Englert and Somers each added a goal to knot the game up in the next three minutes of action.

The flurry of goal scoring continued in the middle of the half, when Englert scored again to give Kenyon its first lead. Veronica Wagner then added two goals in 1:12 to give the Cardinals a 4-3 edge with 13:21 remaining in the first half.

Somers would add her second goal of the game a little less than ten minutes later, but Katy Williams scored another in the final minute of the first period to provide the home team with a 5-4 halftime advantage.

Momentum then swung when Englert scored her third and fourth goals of the game within the first five minutes of the second half, giving the Ladies at least a share of the lead the rest of the way.

With 14:19 left, Otterbein did tie the game on another goal from Williams. Less than three minutes later, however, Redford-Maung Maung broke the tie and then tacked on an insurance goal, providing the Ladies with an 8-6 cushion in the final 5:57 of the game.

Williams would score again, with 1:30 remaining, but Kenyon survived by forcing a turnover in the final minute of action.

Otterbein outshot Kenyon, 20-18, and both teams were incredibly accurate, as the Cardinals held a 16-13 edge in shots on goal. Kenyon keeper Allie Dumas racked up nine saves in the victory, including six in the second half. Tasha Williams was effective as well, with five saves for Otterbein.

The Ladies will host another Ohio Athletic Conference team, the John Carroll Blue Streaks, this Saturday in their home opener at Mavec Field. The game is scheduled for a noon start.
