GAMBIER, Ohio – Aggressive play by John Carroll University was too much for the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team on Saturday, as the Ladies lost, 14-7, in non-conference play at McBride Field.
Kenyon is now 2-3 on the season.
Cassie Hudson-Heck scored four of Kenyon's seven goals. Her first goal came 13 minutes into the first half, cutting John Carroll's lead to 2-1. The Blue Streaks, however, scored three more times in the next six minutes to take a 5-1 lead.
Hudson-Heck scored again, this time on a pass from
Lucy Somers, then
Kat Englert tossed one in with four minutes remaining to put the Ladies within two, 5-3, which held up as the halftime score.
The Ladies struggled to get in an offensive flow during the second half and John Carroll went on to outscore Kenyon, 6-1, during the first 17 minutes of the period. Kenyon's only score during that run came when Englert fired in an unassisted goal at the 20-minute mark.
Alexis Redford-Maung Maung added a goal, then Hudson-Heck scored her final two goals, but it was too late for the Ladies.
Gina Vilsack scored four times for John Carroll. Colleen Grombala, Brooke McQuinn and Grace Curatolo tacked on three goals apiece.
Carina Barnes got her first start in net for the Ladies but took the loss, even after making 18 saves. Barnes was tested often as John Carroll outshot Kenyon, 49-20.
The loss ended a brief two-game winning streak for the Ladies, who next host Hendrix College on Monday at 5 p.m.
Sophomore Cassie Hudson-Heck scored four goals Saturday, but that accounted for more
than half of the Ladies' final output as they fell at home, 14-7, to John Carroll University.
