Rangers triumph over Lords, 12-2

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Drew University (7-1) scored 10 runs between the third and fifth innings and handed the Kenyon College baseball team a 12-2 defeat on Wednesday morning moving the Lords' early-season record to 0-5.

After falling behind 2-0 through two innings, Kenyon cut into the Drew lead with a run in the third. Matt Contreras led off the frame reaching third after an error and two batters later, Matt von Roemer drove in his teammate with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

But the Rangers quickly responded in the home half of the inning with four runs.

Drew got the bases loaded with just one out after Zach Lipshitz reached base on an error from the pitching mound. Following a bases-loaded walk to Jonathan Rodriguez - and pitching change from Kenyon - Isaiah Mateo singled to right field scoring a pair. The Rangers added another run on a RBI groundout to third base.

Alec Manning's RBI single in the fourth brought the score to 6-2, but Kenyon would not get any closer.

Two more runs were added by the Rangers on a wild pitch and RBI by Rodrigues in the bottom of the fourth. Then in the fifth, Drew extended its lead to 12-2 as they tacked on four more, including two on a Lords error.

Mikey Arman and von Roemer were the only Lords to record multiple for Kenyon during the game. Additionally, the Lords struck out 10 times. Kai Long took the loss going 2.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and three hits.

Kenyon will look to shake off its slowest start since 1991 (0-12) tomorrow when they play a doubleheader against Lebanon Valley College (5-3) starting at 10 a.m.
