PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team decided to test itself early in the season with a demanding spring break slate of three games. The second of those three games unfolded Wednesday night at Dever Park with No. 13-ranked St. John Fisher College dealing the Ladies a 19-2 defeat.
The Cardinals (2-0) raced out to a 5-0 lead within the game's first ten minutes. Jamie Wallace scored back-to-back goals to cap off that run just before Kenyon notched its first goal at the 20:06 mark. That tally came from senior
Allie McLane, who was assisted by sophomore
Cassie Hudson-Heck. The goal was McLane's team-best third of the season and the assist was Hudson-Heck's second of the season.
Four more St. John Fisher goals found the net before Kenyon scored its second and final goal of the game. This time around it was freshman
Avery Morgan setting up junior
Kat Englert. The assist was Morgan's first and the goal was Englert's second of the season.
The Cardinals, a team that made it to the third round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament, tacked on two more scores before the half to make 11-2. In the second half, the Cardinals coasted to an 8-0 advantage.
Overall, St. John Fisher outshot Kenyon, 37-4, and held a 15-7 advantage in draw controls. Six of the Cardinals' 19 goals came off free-positions shots. Jordan Johnson scored a game-high four goals, while Cori Holbrook, Claire Bollin and Wallace each finished with three.
Kenyon (0-2) started
Allie Dumas in goal and then switched to
Carina Barnes in the second half. Dumas allowed 11 goals and made seven saves. Barnes allowed eight goals and made five saves.
The Ladies wrap up their Florida trip on Friday with a 10 a.m. contest against Bridgewater State University.
