Ladies triumph over Battling Bishops, 18-4

GAMBIER, Ohio – Playing against an undermanned Ohio Wesleyan University team, the Kenyon Ladies lacrosse squad notched an 18-4 North Coast Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday at Mavec Field. The victory improved Kenyon to 7-6 and 3-2 in conference play with three games remaining.

It was Kenyon's ninth straight victory in the series and it kept the team's NCAC Tournament hopes alive.

Eight different players scored for the Ladies including four each from Lucy Somers and Kat Englert. For Englert, she moved into third place all-time with 167 career goals passing Amanda Drummond '08 (164).  Rounding out Kenyon's multiple-goal scorers included Cassie Hudson-Heck (3) and Allie McLane and Alexis Redford-Maung Maung with two.

With a 12 on nine advantage in personnel, it didn't take long for the home team to find the scoreboard. Englert scored Kenyon's first two goals within the game's first 2:16.

Ohio Wesleyan got its first tally with about 22 minutes left in the half as Sloane Baumgartner brought the score to 4-1. But after that, Kenyon reeled off 10 straight goals to go up 14-1. Hudson-Heck's goal at the 14:46 mark – her second of the night – pushed the Ladies up 10 and invoked the non-stop clock rule as well.

Kenyon led 15-2 at halftime. In the second half, play slowed down significantly but the Ladies did notch a few more goals including one from Charley Myers, her first of the year.

The Battling Bishops also added two more from Hope Poolos and Mickey Rice.

Currently, the Ladies are in fifth place of the NCAC standings with the top four making the conference's postseason tourney. Kenyon's next chance to inch closer comes on April 22 when they host Allegheny College at noon.
