Denison storms past Kenyon, 17-5

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison University (12-3, 8-0 NCAC) earned its biggest victory over Kenyon College (7-8, 3-4 NCAC) since May, 3 2005 on Wednesday as the Big Red claimed a 17-5 win over the Ladies.

The Big Red scored the first 12 goals of the contest over nearly 18 minutes of action before Kenyon got on the scoreboard.

Kat Englert led Kenyon with four goals pushing her season total to 47 while second-year Mary Grace Detmer tallied the Ladies' other score.

About two minutes into the contest, Maddy Heher scored DU's first goal. She tallied four of those first 12 for the Big Red who out-shot the Ladies 18-0 during their first-half scoring spurt.

It wasn't until the 5:45 mark that Kenyon found the back of the net on an Englert score. By the end of the half, though, Denison held a 13-1 advantage and forced the Ladies into 14 first-half turnovers.

Kenyon scored three of first four goals of the second half to cut the deficit to 14-4. Detmer's 14th goal of the year came on a man-up opportunity about eight minutes in before Englert scored again at the 18:47 mark. The Ladies tallied just one more after that as Englert scored with 6:09 remaining.

In goal, Carina Barnes came up with five saves while Allie Dumas stopped four Denison shots. Next up for Kenyon is a road date on Saturday against Wittenberg University.
