CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Playing in the 46th annual Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Championship, the Kenyon College Lords faced a difficult field of 31 teams over a three-day period. After the event's first two rounds were completed on Friday and Saturday, the Lords were placed in Sunday's consolation tournament and wound up claiming the runner-up spot.

Friday's round had the Lords playing the Scarlet Course at Paradise Point Golf Course, which was a par-70 track. Rain and high winds interrupted the competition and even led to a 70-minute suspension of play, but the Kenyon men finished off the long day with a round of 293. Sophomore Robert Williams was low-man with a 72. Junior Ryan Muthiora fired a 73, while Chase Frederick, Patrick Kawakami and senior Mason McCool all scored a 74. That left Kenyon in tenth place at the end of day one.

Saturday, the Lords switched over to the more difficult, par-72 Gold Course. Muthiora took charge with a 73, while McCool carded a 76 and Williams added a 79. Frederick, a freshman, scored an 82 and Kawakami, also a freshman, shot 85. The second-round team score of 310 knocked the Lords down to 17th place, just one placement shy of making the championship tournament.

Sunday, the 31 teams were split again. This time, however, the top 16 teams advanced to play the Gold Course in the championship tournament, while the other 15 teams battled it out on the Scarlet Course in the consolation tournament. Among those 15 teams in the consolation tournament, Kenyon placed second by rounding out its overall three-day team score with a third-round score of 296.

Muthiora again led the Lords on the final day as he fired a 71, giving him a three-day total of 217, just two shots off his Kenyon record for a 54-hole tournament. McCool and Williams posted 73s. That gave McCool a three-day total of 223 and Williams a total of 224. Kawakami finished with a 79 and Frederick finished up with an 80.

Overall, Kenyon posted a final team score of 899. Marymount University totaled an 898 to edge the Lords and take the top spot in the consolation tournament. In the championship tournament, No. 6-ranked Methodist University took the title with 850 strokes. Duke University's 'B' team shot an 851 for second place and No. 3-ranked Oglethorpe University took third with an 864.
