Foster, Speroff steer Ladies past Quakers

RICHMOND, Ind. – One day after scoring the game-winning goal against DePauw University, Kenyon College senior Weezie Foster continued her tear through Indiana on Sunday by playing a role in both goals of the Ladies' 2-0 field hockey win over the Earlham College Quakers.

Foster's five-point weekend has the Ladies sporting a 6-1 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark within North Coast Athletic Conference play. Additionally, Foster now leads the Ladies with four goals and 10 points this season.

With nine minutes expired in Sunday's contest at Darrell Beane Stadium, Foster set up the Ladies' first goal. Taking the ball up the right sideline, she launched a pass toward the Earlham goal. Her pass was met near the end line by freshman Olivia O'Connell, who tapped it in, notching her second goal of the season.

Kenyon outshot Earlham 8-4 in the first half, but the 1-0 lead was all the Ladies could muster.

In the second half, during the game's 58th minute, Kenyon tacked on an insurance goal. Foster logged that tally to seal the victory. Taking a pass from freshman Molly Keen following a penalty corner, Foster blasted her shot, from the top of the circle, into the back of the Quakers' cage.

Overall, Kenyon held an 11-6 advantage in shots taken and 9-5 advantage in penalty corners awarded. Earlham goalkeeper Grace Makhoul and Kenyon goalkeeper Sarah Speroff both made five saves. In addition to her five saves, Speroff notched her second shutout of the season and the 27th of her Kenyon career.

Next up for the Kenyon women is an 11 a.m. Saturday home game against Ohio Wesleyan University.
