Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Ladies shut down Battling Bishops, 3-0

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference home opener went just as planned for the Kenyon College field hockey team as the Ladies were able to push their winning streak to three games after handling business against Ohio Wesleyan University. Kenyon's offense was able to push three goals across the line while keeping the Battling Bishops from attempting a shot attempt.

The game took a big swing in Kenyon's favor at the end of the first half, when the Ladies were able to push across two goals in the last eight minutes.

First, Olivia O'Connell ending the deadlock by finishing a shot on a deflection from Hannah Sklar. Sklar was positioned in the middle of the circle and guided the ball towards O'Connell. O'Connell then took her shot from the left post, pushing the ball to the opposite back right corner of the goal.

Next, just over two minutes later, Weezie Foster buried a goal on a "one-timer" off a penalty corner from Molly Keen. Keen's insert went straight to Foster near the top of the circle and Foster put it past the keeper on a direct shot from the pass.

At the halftime break, the Ladies out-shot the Battling Bishops 13-0. Seven different Ladies fired away at least one shot attempt at the OWU's keeper Paige Ross, whom recorded five saves.

Kenyon did not slow down the pressure after the halftime break. Not even four minutes into the second half, Katelyn Hutchinson took a pass from Kelsey Trulik and beat Ross for Kenyon's third goal.

Sarah Speroff picked up a shutout in the win, as the Ladies finished with a 23-0 advantage in shots on goal. Ross saved 10 shots in defeat. Kenyon was able to put 13 of their 23 shots on goal. The Ladies also held a 5-to-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Up next, Kenyon will face off with Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio to battle for first place in the NCAC. Both teams entered play on Saturday with unbeaten conference records.
