DANVILLE, Ky. – A year after falling to Centre College 7-1, the Kenyon Ladies field hockey team came back and defeated the Colonels 2-1 in a rainy non-conference contest at South Campus Field on Saturday. The win moved the Ladies' record to 2-0 in the early season.
The Ladies surged ahead 2-0 within the game's first 17 minutes to seize control.
Kenyon's first score came from junior
Lynne Cullen at the 4:43 mark as she finished a pass from
Shannon Hart. A little bit after the midway point of the first half, Cullen found senior
Zoe Chrissos for the Ladies' second goal.
With Cullen along the right side of the pipe, she passed to an open Chrissos who finished by the left post.
The 2-0 score remained until just before halftime. Centre pulled the count to 2-1 as Emily Schank was assisted by teammate Caroline Brotzge.
Second-half action resulted in few opportunities for either team as there were just four total attempts. The Colonels' best shot at tying the game occurred at the 45:22 mark. A shot from Demi Kennedy after a corner deflected off the post.
After that, Kenyon's superb defense limited the Colonels to just two on-goal attempts in the 48th and 51st minutes.
Sarah Speroff saved both of those shots.
Next up for the Ladies is their North Coast Athletic Conference opener on September 5. They'll host Oberlin College at 5:30 at McBride Field.
Senior Zoe Chrissos tallied what turned out to be the game-winning goal on Saturday as the
