Ladies’ depth shines in NCAC opener

GAMBIER, Ohio – Six different Kenyon Ladies field hockey players scored goals on Tuesday – including two from newcomer Paulina Mendez – in a 7-0 win against Oberlin College in both team's North Coast Athletic Conference opener at McBride Field. The victory moved Kenyon's early-season record to 3-0, a start last accomplished in 2005.

Kenyon dominated the contest out-shooting Oberlin 35-0 while also holding a 12-0 corner advantage. It was the ninth straight win in the series for the Ladies as well.

A little over five minutes into the game, Katelyn Hutchinson sent a Molly Keen corner into the shooting circle and watched as Hannah Sklar deflected it home.

Just two minutes later, Mendez earned her first career goal as Weezie Foster drove along the right end line and passed to the Ottawa Hills, Ohio native who finished in front of the pipes.

That 2-0 score remained the rest of the half until the Ladies added five more in the second stanza.

Junior Hannah Paterakis continued her solid early season with the Ladies' third goal. A shot from Sklar was deflected to a waiting Paterakis who fired from the left side at the 38:57 mark.

The Ladies continued to keep possession in the Oberlin half and went up 4-0 at 46:43. Hutchinson delivered that score off a Keen corner.

Mendez, Gigi Guenther and Foster tallied three more goals for Kenyon the rest of the way. For Guenther, it was her first career score.

Due up next for the Ladies is a home date with Washington and Lee University on September 9 at noon. A season ago, the Generals handed Kenyon a 3-1 loss.
