Ladies notch crucial win at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, In. – The Kenyon women's soccer team rallied late and then won in overtime against DePauw University on Saturday by a 2-1 score.

In the process, Kenyon (6-5-3, 2-2-2 NCAC) vaulted from eighth place into a tie for fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with two regular-season games remaining. The Ladies, hoping to make their fifth-straight conference tourney, will need to finish in the top four by next Saturday night.

There wasn't much action in the first half as there were nine combined shots, six of which were taken by the hosts. Each team had just one shot on goal and both attempts were saved.

In the second half, DePauw picked up its pace and were able to attempt 12 shots. One of those, with less than eight minutes remaining, gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Natalie Kelley passed from the right side to Shaili Kumar who finished for her first goal of the year. Down a goal, freshman Olivia Dion knotted things up a couple minutes later.

The newcomer picked an opportune time to get her first goal as she fired from the right side past Tigers goalie Mia Manney.

With the scoreboard evened up, the two teams went to overtime. At the 95:54 mark, Caroline McNeer's corner kick came to defender Maia Emden who fired from near the top of the 18 into the net.

In goal, Jillian Countey picked up seven saves to aid the Ladies.

Kenyon will look to inch closer to a postseason berth on October 24 when it hosts Oberlin College at 3:30 p.m. at Mavec Field.
