Ladies lose, but prep for postseason

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team finished off its regular-season schedule on Saturday with a 2-0 loss at Denison University. The loss, however, didn't mean the end of the road for the Ladies, who earned a postseason spot in the upcoming, four-team North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

Kenyon, now 9-8 overall and 8-6 in NCAC play, goes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play its semifinal game Wednesday at The College of Wooster, which is the No. 2-seed with records of 14-5 overall and 10-4 within the conference.

With Saturday's results, Denison joined Wooster as the only two teams in the NCAC to sweep the two-game, regular-season series from the Ladies. It also marked the first multiple-goal loss for the Ladies, whose previous seven losses all came by one goal.

Denison, the NCAC regular-season champion, improved to 16-2 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the NCAC. The Big Red got the win over Kenyon with one goal in each half of Saturday's contest. Alyssa Bahel recorded the first goal within the game's first five minutes. During second-half play, in the game's 59th minute, Caroline Little tacked on the second goal during a penalty corner.

The Big Red took nine penalty corners throughout the game, compared to two for Kenyon. In the shot department, Denison built a 17-6 advantage.

Denison goalkeeper Teya Adams made six saves to earn the shutout, just the fourth time this season an opponent blanked Kenyon. At the other end of the field, freshman goalkeeper Suzy Deems made eight saves for the Ladies.
