Third-seed Kenyon will travel to second-seed Wooster on October 31 for an NCAC
Tournament semifinal match. The Ladies will try and avenge a 3-1 loss
earlier this season to the Fighting Scots.Â
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's soccer team will be appearing in its fifth consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday, as the Ladies travel to The College of Wooster to challenge the Fighting Scots in the semifinal round.
Â
It's the second straight season the Ladies and Fighting Scots played in the semifinals. Last year, Kenyon rallied from a 3-1 deficit and eventually advanced into the tourney final after winning a penalty-kick shootout, 3-1.
Â
Earlier this season, Wooster handed Kenyon a 3-1 loss at Mavec Field. In that game, Erica White tallied two goals while Devin Frisby registered two assists. The Ladies' lone score came on a penalty kick from senior
Maia Emden. In all, Wooster outshot Kenyon 20-6.
Â
Since that match on October 10, the Ladies (8-5-3, 4-2-2 NCAC) have won four of five including a 5-0 victory against Allegheny College on October 27 to clinch the third seed in the upcoming Tournament.
Â
Kenyon's offense, which had scored 10 goals through the first 11 matches, has stepped up lately totaling 13 goals in its last five games.
Â
Leading the way for the Ladies is junior
Fallon Raviol. Her eight goals are a team-high and those rank tied for third in the NCAC. Second-year forward
Samantha Hayes has added seven goals and is tied for fourth in the league with 16 points.
Â
Defensively, the Ladies have a talented back line and a goalie in junior
Jillian Countey who ranks second in the conference with a .871 save percentage. She's also third in goals against average (0.77).
Â
Wooster enters as the No. 2 seed after completing the regular season with an 11-3-3 overall record and 6-2-0 conference mark.
Â
Offensively, White leads not only her team but also the NCAC with 15 goals and six game-winners. Additionally, Krissy Blanchard and Mila Zunich have added four goals each. Defending the net is sophomore Molly Hutter. She's given up the fewest goals in the conference this year (5) and also ranks first with a 0.40 goals against average mark.
Â
As mandated by the conference, tickets for Wednesday's semifinal contest are $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 years of age and under). Any NCAC student with a valid ID from an NCAC institution will be admitted free of charge.
