Lowry’s last-second goal lifts Lords over Wabash

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon men's soccer defender Bret Lowry scored as time expired to lift the No. 14 Lords to a 1-0, double-overtime victory against Wabash College in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.

The semifinal win moved the top-seeded Lords into the tournament final for the sixth straight season while also improving their record to 15-1-2. Wabash fell to 13-3-2 to close its year.

With less than seven seconds remaining, a cross from the left side by Greg McNeer trickled down to the right end line. That's when Lowry ran in and shot past Little Giants keeper Chad Wunderlich. It was Lowry's second game-winner in as many contests.

Up until that point, the Lords, ranked seventh in the country in team scoring (3.65), struggled to get good looks on target.

Kenyon took five shots in the first half, but only one of those posed a real threat. With about two minutes left until halftime, a corner from Gunner Found was met by Keven Duan. The senior's header narrowly missed, sailing just above to top crossbar.

About 10 minutes into the second stanza, Kenyon had picked up its pace to a tune of six shots. Brice Koval and John Penas each had on-goal attempts, however, Wunderlich saved both.

For a span of 16 minutes after that, the Lords did not get a shot off. On the other side, Wabash got its first attempt. At the 68th minute, Corbin Kaiser shot near the left post. Ian McInturf denied that attempt, though.

Kenyon's defense, led by Lowry, buckled down the rest of the game as the Little Giants never found another shot.

The Lords had a couple more good looks over the rest of the second half, but none were able to cross the goal line.

Once in overtime, Kenyon shot twice in the first period, and then added two more in the second. Lowry's goal was the team's 19th shot of the match.

Kenyon will now await for the winner of the Ohio Wesleyan University and Denison University match. Check back later for more info.
