Polar Bears win in overtime versus Lords

ADA, Ohio – Ohio Northern University notched a 10-9 overtime victory on Tuesday night against Kenyon College (1-1) in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

Pierce Kraft, Emilio Sosa and Joe Bolea led the Lords' attack with two goals apiece while Chris Ferraro and Joe Woody each tallied a goal and assist. In goal, Reed Levesque collected 12 saves.

Kenyon struck first a little over three minutes into the affair. Kraft got by two defenders and fired from the right side to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. A four-minute stretch followed before ONU tied the game. Anthony Pavone was near the left post and he shot underneath Kenyon's goalie to bring the score to 1-1.

After the two teams scored again, Kenyon added a pair to take a 4-2 halftime lead. Bolea tallied his second goal of the game at 7:55 as he spun around a defender and shot from the right side. A little over three minutes later, Ferraro curled around an ONU defender and scored from the left side.

The Lords extended their lead to three (5-2) in the third. Ferraro found Kraft around the left post and Kraft scored on a tough angle to push Kenyon up 5-2 with 10:17 left.

Ohio Northern (2-0) called timeout after that to regroup. The break worked as the Polar Bears scored three straight times in a 4:46 span. Their fifth goal came at the 4:06 mark from Cameron Marous.

Sosa put the Lords back in front, 6-5, near the end of the period and that score remained until the fourth.

Not even a minute into the final period, Sosa struck again, as he scored on a pass from Sam Humphrey. The home team would overcome another multiple-goal deficit again, though.

ONU scored three straight to take an 8-7 lead with 8:25 left. Kenyon tied it up about 90 seconds later on Jonah Florence's first goal of 2018. Again, the Lords would need another equalizer trailing 9-8. Woody delivered for Kenyon and tied it at the 1:37 mark.

In overtime, the Lords got three shots off near ONU's net but none rang true. Marous then sealed the victory for the Polar Bears with his third goal of the game with 44 seconds left in overtime.

Kenyon will try to bounce back this coming Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Capital University at McBride Field.
