Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

John Carroll powers past Kenyon, 20-9

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - In its first road game of the season, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team (1-1, NCAC 0-0) lost 20-9 to John Carroll University (1-0) on Saturday.

After senior Grace Curatolo scored JCU's first point less than two minutes into the game, the Blue Streaks did not give up the lead for the rest of the game. A few scoring hot streaks, including two 5-0 runs, by JCU kept the game out of Kenyon's reach.

Curatolo led the JCU attack with seven goals on fourteen shots to go along with four assists. Teammates Gina Vilsack, Meghan Harte and Colleen Grombola added to the offensive with five, four and three goals, respectively. Guarding the JCU frame was sophomore Elyssa Zarbo, who made 13 saves on the day.

For the Ladies, sophomore Maggie Grabowski led the team with three goals, while Cassie Hudson-Heck and Avery Morgan chipped in two apiece. In goal, Allie Dumas made six saves and Carina Barnes three.

The match started close. JCU opened 3-0, but Grabowski soon drew first blood for Kenyon at the 23:00 mark in the first half. The teams traded goals until about eight minutes remained in the half. Then, the Blue Streaks blew the game open with five consecutive goals.

Morgan and Hudson-Heck stemmed the tide before halftime, each sneaking a shot into the net in the final minute of the half to put the score at 10-5, JCU.

The Blue Streaks came out of halftime firing and went on a 4-0 run in the first seven minutes of the second. The Ladies responded with three goals of their own to bring the score to 14-8. Kenyon would score only once more after that, however, as JCU closed the game with a 6-1 run.

The Ladies will remain on the road for their next game: They head to Alliance, Ohio, to face University of Mount Union (1-0) on February 28 at 4:30 p.m.
