FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Lucy Somers and
Avery Morgan each scored five goals as the Kenyon Ladies lacrosse team closed its spring break trip with a 20-5 win against Methodist University. The victory, Kenyon's fourth in a row, improved the team's record to 5-2.
Somers and Morgan also combined for five assists.
Kenyon had its way against Wentworth, especially offensively. The visitors out-shot the Monarchs 40-24 including a 31-14 advantage in on-goal attempts. On the other end, Kenyon's defense forced 21 turnovers and picked up 24 ground balls, its second-highest mark this season.
The Ladies raced out to a 10-0 lead within the game's first 22 minutes. Somers scored Kenyon's first two goals before
Cassie Hudson-Heck pushed the lead to 10-0 on a pass from Morgan at 13:48.
Methodist was able to find a little offensive traction, though, in the final 2:30 of the half. The Monarchs scored three straight times, including two by Sarah Erwin, to bring the halftime deficit to 11-4.
That would be the closest the Monarchs got the rest of the way as Kenyon dominated the second half.
The Ladies scored six in a row, including three from Morgan, to go up 17-4 at the 16:10 mark. For Methodist, it managed to take just seven shots and score once.
In the second half alone, 14 of Kenyon's 18 shots were fired at the Monarchs' net. Defensively, keeper
Allie Dumas registered nine saves for the Ladies.
Kenyon will return to action on March 17 when it travels to Baldwin Wallace University for a 1 p.m. contest.
