Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Morgan scores seven in seventh straight win

DELAWARE, Ohio - On Saturday the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team claimed another dominant victory over a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent with an 18-7 win at Ohio Wesleyan University.

After beating the host Battling Bishops (3-5, 0-1 NCAC), Kenyon (8-2, 2-0 NCAC) ran its win streak to seven. It's the program's longest streak since the 2013 team put together nine consecutive wins.

In Saturday's contest, Kenyon's conference-best offense put on another impressive performance. The Ladies, who entered play leading all NCAC teams in goals per game (17.44) and points per game (23.78), started with seven consecutive goals before the Battling Bishops scored their first more than 20 minutes into the first half.

Junior Cassie Hudson-Heck opened the floodgates, snagging Kenyon's first two goals on her way to a four-goal, three-assist performance. Sophomore Avery Morgan racked up seven goals, six of them unassisted, to lead both teams in scoring.

On the defensive end, the Ladies held the Battling Bishops to just 15 shots, and goalkeeper Allie Dumas earned credit for the win, making one save and allowing only two goals in almost 40 minutes of play.

The Battling Bishops had no answer for Kenyon's offensive campaign in the first half. The Ladies overwhelmed OWU goalkeeper Kelly Coffyn with a barrage of 21 shots, 18 of them on frame. OWU's Sloane Baumgartner and Meaghan Teitelman notched a goal apiece, but they did little to slow the Ladies, who went into halftime with an 11-2 lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Morgan caught fire and helped push Kenyon ahead 16-2, its largest lead of the day. The Ladies opened the second period with five unanswered goals; four of them were Morgan's.

In the final 15 minutes, the Kenyon offense slowed a bit and OWU's began to heat up. Baumgartner scored three unassisted goals, while Hope Poolos and Megan McElgunn added one apiece, but their efforts were too little, too late. Hudson-Heck and Alexis Redford Maung-Maung tallied two more goals for the Ladies to finalize the score.

For its next match, Kenyon will return home to host an Alumni Day game against Denison University (6-2, 1-0 NCAC) on April 7. That game will start at 11 a.m. on McBride Field.
