Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Leopards find Ladies offense unstoppable

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team had a heyday Friday, racking up near-record totals in both goals scored and points tallied, as it cruised to a 26-2 victory against the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards in a neutral-site game at Hilton Head Preparatory.

The Kenyon program's single-game record for goals was set at 29 in a contest against Earlham College in 1998. During that same game, the Ladies rang up 38 points. Friday, against Wentworth, the Ladies' 26 goals and 37 points went down as the second-best, single-game team totals in program history.

Nearly every player on the Kenyon roster logged some playing time against the Leopards and 11 of them scored at least one goal. Junior Lucy Somers led the way with five goals, two assists and seven points. Avery Morgan, Cassie Hudson-Heck and Maggie Grabowski all had five-point games that included four goals and an assist. Julia Mahoney also had a five-point game on two goals and three assists. Katelyn Schwartz scored twice and had three points, while Caitlin Augerson and Charley Myers each chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Four of Kenyon's goals were scored on free-position shots and eleven others were set up by assists.

As the score final score indicated, Kenyon dominated every facet of the game. The Ladies outshot Wentworth, 43-10, and built lopsided advantages in ground balls (23-10) and draw controls (21-8).

Kenyon got seven draw controls from Augerson and four each from Grabowski and Schwartz. Thirteen different players scooped up at least one ground ball, with Sabrina Greene leading the way. She had four ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.

Kenyon ended up forcing 17 Wentworth turnovers and halted the Leopards on 10 of their 16 clear attempts.

Allie Dumas and Carina Barnes shared time in front of the Kenyon net and both had an easy go of it. Dumas got the start and the win. She allowed one goal and made four saves. Barnes played the second half, allowed one goal and made three saves.

Kenyon scored the first nine goals of the game and rolled to a 17-1 lead at the break. During the end of the first half and the start of the second half, the Ladies fired in 14 goals in a row.

Kenyon is now 4-2 overall and will head to Fayetteville, North Carolina to face Methodist University on Sunday.
