Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#22 Lords roll by #24 John Carroll

GAMBIER, Ohio – A deep Kenyon College men's soccer squad wore down John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon winning by a 4-0 count at Mavec Field. It was both team's season opener, and for the Lords, it was their first win in the series against the Blue Streaks spanning the last six matches.

First-half action was sluggish as the two teams combined for six shots. One of those shots, though, rang true for the Lords.

Senior Brice Koval beat his defender near the left end line, passed back into the middle to Philippe Stengel, and the junior juked a JCU defender and fired into the net.

That 1-0 score remained until the break.

In the second stanza, the 22nd-ranked Lords blew the match wide open. A little over 15 minutes into the second half, Max Taylor scored a nifty goal off his right foot that doubled the Lords lead. Less than 90 seconds later, Will Bennett corralled a header near the 18-yard box and scored into the right corner.

Kenyon's final tally came off the foot of freshman Scott Upton. With less than three minutes left, Bennett found the speedy newcomer near the center of the box who then fired right.

By game's end, the Lords had out-shot John Carroll and 17-3, including a 9-0 on-goal attempts advantage.

Next on the schedule for Kenyon is a trip to Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday. The Lords defeated the Tartans 4-3 in double overtime last year.
