Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 8 Lords stifle Pioneers, 5-0

GAMBIER, Ohio – Eighth-ranked Kenyon College remained unbeaten this season (4-0-1) after a 5-0 triumph against Marietta College (2-3) in a non-conference men's soccer match at Mavec Field.

The Lords' offensive speed was a clear advantage throughout the match as they were able to notch 30 total shots, 14 of which were on target.

Barely three minutes into the contest, Kenyon found all the scoring it would need. David Anderson drove down the near sideline, cut into the right side of the box and passed to Philippe Stengel who followed with his third goal of the year.

After that quick strike, the Lords doubled their lead in the 18th minute. A long ball came to Anderson up the middle and the senior eventually beat out a Pioneers defender and goalie Trevor Dykstra near the right post for his third score of the season.

That 2-0 lead stayed for nearly the next 60 minutes as Kenyon didn't finish as well as they had early in the first half. However, starting in the 76th minute, the Lords pulled away for good with a trio of goals.

Senior Will Bennett beat his defender around the far sideline, cut into the right side of the 18-yard box and rocketed a shot into the left corner. About seven minutes later, Keven Duan found a streaking Eric Albrecht along the right side and the junior later scored his first career goal.

Sebastian Gaese capped off the scoring. The 6-foot-3 freshman corralled a pass from fellow newcomer Sam Carson, drove into the top of the 18 and fired into the right side.

On Saturday, the Lords will travel to hostile territory and face Thomas More College at 4 p.m. A year ago, the two teams played to 1-1 double-overtime draw.
