CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Kenyon College (5-0-1) occupied the Thomas More College half for most of the match on Saturday afternoon and prevailed with a 2-1 win to keep the team undefeated to start the season.
The Lords outshot the Saints 16-10 and held a whopping 16-1 advantage in corner kicks as Kenyon got to wherever they wanted on the field.
Both teams came out firing as each keeper had two saves within the game's first seven minutes. Despite several attempts from each side, the scoreboard remained empty until the Lords struck in the 29th minute.
Senior
Will Bennett tallied his third goal of the season at that point to put Kenyon up 1-0. The Saints tried to tie things up about four minutes later, however, Dominic Russo's attempt was denied by
Ian McInturf.
Early in the second half, Thomas More got another on-target attempt but did not find the equalizer. Kenyon followed at the 55th minute with another goal. Another senior,
David Anderson, headed home his team-leading fourth goal of the season to double up the Lords lead.
Thomas More finally got on the scoreboard with 5:42 left as Ethan Smith scored. However, the home team never attempted another shot as Kenyon held tight down the stretch.
McInturf picked up four saves in the win.
Next on the schedule for the Lords is a home date with Centre College (5-1) on September 18 at 4:15 p.m.
