Lords explode in second half versus Centre

GAMBIER, Ohio – A sluggish first half paved the way for a monster second half for Kenyon College on Tuesday as the No. 8 Lords defeated Centre College 4-0 at Mavec Field in a non-conference match.

The victory kept Kenyon undefeated (6-0-1) while the Colonels fell to 5-2.

During the first 45 minutes, Kenyon just was not in harmony as its best attempt came from freshman Scott Upton whose shot in the 35th minute hit the crossbar. Eight minutes prior, Upton raced by the Colonels defense and passed to an open Luke Muther, however, his attempt was blocked.

On the other side, Centre's offense was virtually non-existent as the Lords buckled down. Outside of a kick from Carson Hart after a yellow card was issued, the Colonels never threatened.

After halftime, Kenyon wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. About six minutes in, a long pass from Max Taylor came to a streaking Brice Koval. The senior cut in from the far sideline, dodged a couple of defenders and fired into the left side.

Sam Hosmer-Quint then doubled the 1-0 lead. After a foul by Centre, Greg McNeer took an indirect kick just outside the goalie box and watched as Hosmer-Quint headed it into the right side underneath the arms of keeper Bailey Spade. It was Hosmer-Quint's first career goal.

The Lords added two more over the next four minutes. Tomas Munoz Reyes picked up a loose ball in the middle of the field, drove left and crossed a pass back to Sam Carson who fired pushing the team's lead to 3-0. A little over two minutes later, Muther found Munoz Reyes near the top of the 18 and the freshman shot into the right corner.

Kenyon outshot Centre 19-5 including 12-2 in the second half.

Next on the schedule for the Lords is a trip to Wittenberg University on September 21 at 7:30 p.m. for an NCAC match.
