Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladies, Tigers play to scoreless draw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Kenyon College and Wittenberg University, last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament finalists, played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Saturday at Edwards-Mauer Field. It was the conference opener for both squads.

The Ladies moved their record to 4-2-2 while the Tigers ran their mark to 2-4-2.

Wittenberg outshot Kenyon 22-13 on Saturday, including a 10-4 advantage in on-goal attempts.

Thwarting those attempts was junior keeper Jillian Countey who recorded 10 saves. In the process, she became the first Kenyon player since Emilee Kaser during the 2003 season to notch back-to-back, double-digit save totals. Countey stopped 11 John Carroll University shots this past Wednesday.

In the first half, there were eight total shots, with six of those going to the Tigers. Within the game's first 15 minutes, Countey had notched a pair of saves. Kenyon's keeper tallied another denial in the 30th minute after an attempt from Shae Gorin.

Samantha Hayes and Meredith Rogers provided the Ladies' two shots of the half; however, Tigers goalie Kelly Corbin stopped both.

Second-half action saw the Ladies open strong, shooting five times up until the 61st minute. Wittenberg countered with several shots of its own including an attempt from Shannon Brueck at 78:31 that hit the crossbar.

After 90 minutes of play, the teams went to overtime. The Tigers nearly scored on a header attempt by Taylor Vaughn-Stanto a couple minutes in but Countey leaped near the right post and stopped it with her right hand.

For the Ladies, Samantha Hayes and Jaidyn Cook had decent looks at 97:28 and 99:22, respectively. However, one shot was saved and the other went just wide.

In the second extra session, Kenyon did not find a shot while Wittenberg took four, two of which were saved by Countey.

The Ladies will return to action in a week when they travel to Denison University for a 3:00 p.m. NCAC contest.
